I mean yeah it showed me how war can destroy soldiers and eventually it’s all they’ve ever seemed to know. This book was written during the revolution itself, so I recognize that it could not be written with hindsight of the whole decade-long affair. The fiery idealism that has scorched the foundations of power now threatens to erupt into an inferno of anarchic rage, and the revolution hnderdogs the common people had hailed as a blessing seems likely to transform into the blackest of curses.
After reading a history of the Mexican Inderdogs, I was hoping to find a fictionalized version of it that would enhance my understanding of the events that took place. Raul rated it did not like it Nov 17, Azuela did not spend any time making the characters interesting or even likable; the book was so quick that characters came in underdog out with hardly any real concept of who they were and in what context of the revolution they fought.
